Schimmel & Co.

A Leipzig house of essential oils and synthetics, founded in 1829 as Spahn & Büttner; its works moved to Miltitz in 1901, and it published a report on the oil trade from 1877.

Not affiliated Radler Parfums is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Schimmel & Co.. Names and marks belong to their owners; this page is a historical note.

It grew roses at Miltitz from Bulgarian bushes brought in 1888 and distilled their oil; it made heliotropin from 1879. The firm commissioned Gildemeister and Hoffmann’s The Volatile Oils, one of the sources read here.

Where the sources disagree
  • Miltitz: Gildemeister and Hoffmann (1900) already describe the firm’s roses grown near Miltitz; the Neue Deutsche Biographie dates the move of the works there to 1901. Both can hold: the plantation first, the works later. (GILD1900, NDB-FRITZSCHE)
