What changed on the site

Last updated .

What a visitor would notice, by the day it reached the live site, newest first. Corrections to what the pages say are listed one by one, with the old words and the new, on Corrections.

  • New colours across the site: parchment for reading, bottle green for films and showcases, copper for every link and button, brass for labels.
  • This changelog and a corrections page, linked from the footer; nineteen corrections to the main pages from a content review.

  • A “Friends of Radler Parfums” band in the footer of every page, with a link to HombreOils.com.
  • A closing section on the home page introducing HombreOils.com and its historic perfumery materials.
  • Two new origin films on Materials & Origins: vetiver and frankincense.

  • Five extraction films on The Science, moved by your scroll: steam distillation, solvent extraction, cold expression, enfleurage and CO₂ extraction.
  • Three origin films on Materials & Origins: jasmine, lavender and bergamot.
  • The opening film on the home page re-rendered with its shot fixes.
  • A new specimen plate in the rose essay, dried damask rose buds, with a full-size print.
  • The bergamot you can place in your room, re-made at full quality.
  • A transcript for each new film, saying what it shows.
  • The footer and Credits & provenance now name the public-domain (CC0) textures and light maps used in the new films.
  • Everything original on the site is now © Joe Radler / Radler Parfums, all rights reserved; the records and their data had been offered under an open licence (CC BY 4.0). A new Terms page says what you may do: read, view, listen and link.
  • A copyright line, with a link to the Terms, in the footer of every page.
  • Images, 3D models, films and data files from this site can no longer be embedded in other websites. Linking to any page is still welcome.

  • The finished opening film on the home page, with new fire and steam.
  • A sharper version of the opening film for large screens.
  • The home page opens with an entrance: one press starts the film and its score together, with a drop sound timed to the falling drop. The sound stays at one level, and turning it off holds on every page you visit in that tab.
  • New type: the Radler Didone wordmark, Bodoni Moda headings and Archivo text, with larger body text.
  • A new colour for links and main buttons, deep teal, with every link underlined.
  • A strip on every page showing where it stands on the Journey of a Drop, and an Experience / Expert switch in the menu.
  • An evidence line at the end of each section, and the evidence register: each claim the pages make, with its status.
  • A transcript for every film.
  • New pages: Soundscape, a learning profile and a specimen cabinet, kept on your device only if you choose.
  • An “Engraved view” button on seven specimens on Materials & Origins.
  • Bottles from the Hunt Museum’s open collection, each with its own page and 3D model; the hand-vase can be placed in your room at its true size.
  • Our own vanilla, lavender and vetiver models to place in your room.
  • “View in your room” is now offered on every iPhone browser.
  • The maps, tables, cards and tools now read their facts from the house’s records, so a correction made once shows everywhere.
  • Superlatives softened, health and mood lines removed, and every regulation line now names who makes the rule. The details are on Corrections.

  • Record pages for the materials, plants, molecules and places behind the essays, each fact with its source.
  • Six more kinds of record: teaching accords, dated events, odour descriptors, perfumers, historical fragrances and regulations.
  • The records: an index of every record, a new shelf in the menu, and “Explore by” on the home page.
  • The Collection, where the house’s own fragrances will be shown. Nothing is for sale yet.
  • A privacy page: what the site collects through its forms, where it is kept, and how to have it removed.
  • The site now answers only over a secure connection (HTTPS).
  • A film now opens The Atelier, the house’s working studio page.
  • Faster pages: much smaller scripts and lighter 3D models.
  • Fixed: scrolling back up past the rose dive on Materials & Origins could freeze the page.
  • The Causal Debugger and Perfume Autopsy on each teaching-accord page.
  • The Scent Translator: describe a smell in everyday words and see the scent concepts, materials and molecules on record behind them.
  • Full-size views of the engraved prints.
  • Things to place in your room: molecules, the rose and objects from open museum collections, listed in your room; AR mode and Haptics switches in the menu.
  • Our own bergamot model to place in your room, in place of a stand-in.
  • The Sensory Calibration Lab: comparison drills to train your nose with materials you already own.
  • The Spatial Sillage Lab, the Olfactory Genome and the Device API schema.
  • A sharper rose dive for large screens, and finished stills for the specimens.
  • Fixed: the home film looked blocky outside full screen.

  • The opening film at full resolution with a real rose, the full rose dive on Materials & Origins, and finished specimen stills.
  • Films now play as video on desktop screens, for cleaner pictures.
  • Production notes taken off the pages: the test-render captions and the labels on pictures still to come.
  • Engraved plates in the menu, on The Atelier, on The Library and in the History corridor.
  • On The Library: the orrery turns by itself, in brass, with a quiet pause; the glossary cabinet is walnut and brass, and its drawers open.
  • The opening film rebuilt around a museum copper still, and a film opening The Science.

  • The redesigned site: an engraved organ menu on every page, an opening film or plate on each page, and new layouts throughout.
  • A work-in-progress notice on every page while films and plates are still being rendered.
  • Faster first screens.
  • Larger body text, and a share card for each page.
  • The engraved flacon on the home page.
  • The home opening framed on desktop, and the home figures no longer overlap.

  • radlerparfums.com goes live, with The Library; radlerboutique.com forwards to it, keeping the page address.
  • The redrawn damask rose on the home page, and engraved botanical prints on the natural-molecule cards of Materials & Origins.
  • A share image, so links to the site show a preview.
