Alpes-de-Haute-Provence
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is the lavender country on record: the Valensole plateau, the Verdon and the Asse valley. Fine lavender is cut from mid-June to early July on the Valensole plateau and from July to mid-August higher up; lavandin follows at Valensole from about 10 July to the end of July.
Its growers created the AOC « Lavande de Haute Provence » in 1981 to mark out their fine lavender. The point on the globe is Wikidata’s point for the department, not a field, and the clock beside it is local time.

softened by the house’s review (no source then). HV-4, re-read 2026-09-30, says fine lavender is cultivated “au-dessus de 800 m dans le périmètre de l’AOC” (HV-4): the figure could return with that source (main’s call); “only” and “best” stay unsourced. the house’s review (2026-09-30, the copy pass): the 800 m figure restored with HV-4 (HV-4); “only” and “best” stay off the page
