Lavandula angustifolia Mill.

Lavandula angustifolia Mill., fine lavender, grows at altitude on limestone in Haute-Provence. Its flowering stems are cut above the leaves, left to wilt, and steam-distilled for the essential oil.

The French heritage record puts it in the family Lamiaceae, gives it 600 to 1700 m in the wild, and has it cultivated above 800 m inside the AOC area created in 1981. Lavandin, its hybrid with spike lavender, is on record beside it.
