Incensole acetate
Incensole acetate, C22H36O3, is the diterpene the house’s frankincense essay names as its key compound. Its identity is PubChem’s; it has been isolated from Boswellia sacra resin.
A study in mice found that it activates TRPV3 channels in the brain, with anxiolytic-like effects; its authors suggest this “may” bear on religious traditions. What it means for people burning the resin is not established.
