Sandalwood oil

Sandalwood oil comes from the heartwood and roots of mature Santalum album trees; a study of its biosynthesis calls it one of the world’s most highly prized essential oils.

Four sesquiterpene alcohols, α-, β- and epi-β-santalol and α-exo-bergamotol, make up about 90 % of it together; α- and β-santalol are named as the main contributors to its scent. The house calls it creamy and milky: that is our reading, not a source’s.
