Vetiver oil (vetiver essential oil)
Vetiver oil is hydrodistilled from the dried roots of Chrysopogon zizanioides. It is a complex oil: one study counts over 150 compounds, a review about 200.
Khusimol is among its most concentrated alcohols; the single molecule that gives vetiver its smell, a synthesis study showed, is a trace ketone. The house calls the oil smoky and rooty: our reading, not a source’s.
