Le Chypre: Coty, 1917

Le Chypre (Coty, 1917), by François Coty.

The Osmothèque lists it in the chypre family. The same list has earlier chypres, so the record does not call it the start of the family; the teaching chypre accord shows the structure.

The record

Each field carries its evidence: open a chip for the source, the quoted words and the confidence. A field with nothing behind it says so and stays empty.

Where the sources disagree
  • Not the earliest chypre on record: the same Osmothèque list has a "Chypre de Paris" (Guerlain, 1909) and an eighteenth-century "Poudre de Chypre"; the site’s own page says Coty "invented the Chypre family", which this record does not repeat. (OSMO-1)
