Jasminum grandiflorum L.

Jasminum grandiflorum L., jathi malli in Tamil Nadu, is the jasmine on record here. It flowers from May to October; for oil the opened flowers are picked before 10 a.m., and the unopened buds go to the fresh-flower trade.

The Tamil Nadu crop guide gives its family, Oleaceae, three varieties, Co 1, Co 2 and Arka Surabhi, and its oil product, the concrete. The absolute, a second step from the concrete, is the trade’s convention and not in the guide. Jasminum sambac, the other perfumery jasmine, is not filed until a source is.
